The New Bohemian

This summer, I've developed a liking for a more bohemian look---a fresh one though. It isn't about shoelace-necklined kaftan tops and wooden buddha beads, rather, it is a look that is worldly, characterized by collecting clever knick-knacks from places visited, it's about breaking rules on how men should dress.

I like the accessories piled upon each other: one statement piece flanked by a flock of smaller, yet equally interesting pieces. I think they go very well with crazier clothes (e.g. hand-print shirt shown above), and they add a dandy touch to more characteristically masculine clothes such as sharply tailored suits, or even something mildly western-inspired, such as double denim:

I finally found that wide silver cuff I had previously blogged about. This one's extra-wide and it's got elephants etched on it---never a bad thing! Bearded fellow from the Sartorialist, you continue to inspire me. I want to grow up to be just like you.

Barcelona was the perfect place to stock up on those knick-knacks; La Rambla, the main shopping street, was lined with locally-made accessories stores teeming with really interesting design.

Besides accessories, there are many more things to see and buy on La Rambla: stalls selling art, plants, food, and pets; cafes, tapas bars, street performers. Here are a couple of snapshots:

You can buy rubber chickens... and real chickens.

I'm off to see the Margiela exhibition at the Somerset House. London friends, do check it out and tell me what you think!

I love the DIY McQueen shirt! What kind of paint do you use on fabric?

Anonymous: I use acrylic paint or textile paint. A little warning though, both end up cracking and peeling after a few washes, but I quite like the effect.

I definitely love your DIY McQueen shirt! And man I am totally all over your brother's redbeaded ring... I think I may try venturing into one myself- its the right amount of subtle pop.
