Bring Back the Band-collar Shirt

Despite it carrying the stigma of being the shirt of choice for cheesy guitar-playing balladeers and Aga Muhlach, I decided to give the band-collar shirt a second chance.  This particular one in light gauzy cotton evokes summer days spent out of town eating off of tables dressed with fraying vintage linens.

straw fedora, Zara band-collar shirt, Margiela necklace, hemp bracelet from Macau, tailor-made pants, NDC wingtip loafers

with contrast-trim jacket

I like the band-collar shirts! I think it's a fresh take on the dress shirt, even with all the cheesy associations.

I would kill for my boyfriend to even just consider wearing trousers like yours.

They're perfect.

I realldy adore that shirt!!! In terms of Paris..I am not that familiar as I think the food there is way beyond the standard you get here in London anyday!

You should def try out the crepes at http://www.parislemarais.com/present.php?rub=599&fi=1058

It's cosy and the creps are divine!

you still got to learn a lot about dandyism dear.first of all understand that dandyism is not about wearing all strange combinations that look like circus outfits.restrain yourself and combine the essential great classics with a modern touch, but in a moderate way

I love how the one comment that is critical is anonymous.

As bloggers we are vulnerable to every kind of criticism for putting our bodies and styles out there, no question in that. My motto has always been, if you don't like what you see don't look at it. Not to mention that anonymously defining what dandyism is seems a bit cowardly. Dandy is by definition "a man unduly devoted to style, neatness, and fashion in dress and appearance." Now for me I know all of this to be true when it comes to how Izzy presents himself week after week. Defining what a "modern touch" is clearly up to the individual not to mention what it means to be "classic" as we do live in the 21st century rather than the 18th century on which this word was perhaps founded in. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but when one attempts to teach another on a definition clearly up to individual interpretation next time please do honor us at least with a name dear.

buddha, frederic, h, oh lady e, everybody, s, c, and noelle: thanks for the kind words, they always light up my day.

Anonymous: If you were to read the "About Me" section on the right part of my blog, you'd see that my approach to dandyism is barely faithful to the traditional definition of the word. True I appreciate tailoring and fit, and that I like to present myself more put-together than average and that's the part of me that I classify as "dandy".

However, I'm all for existentialism in fashion: dressing yourself in your own unique way, for your own happiness. I appreciate the reminder of the traditional definition of dandyism, but am I even following it? I don't think so. This is my interpretation of dandy, and this is what makes me happy.

Again, I'm really grateful for the comments, both laudatory and constructive, but I agree with the comment below Anonymous, a name behind the comments would be appreciated.

Mimi: Thanks for this, it feels like having a fashion big sister in cyberspace! I don't mind negative comments though, as long as they have the slightest bit of sense in them. Blogging has and is constantly helping me improve my style and trust me I have taken note of all the criticism I get!

Wow, I've never seen a guy dress so chic like this and not look as if they're trying really hard. The cropped pants, and those shoes! are brilliant together.

Really liking your blog chico. :)
