The Schizophrenic Disturbia Photoshoot

I have been playing dress-up for two weekends in a row now.  Yesterday, I was invited, together with my friend Michelle, to style a photo shoot for promotional materials for a school org party my brother was organizing.  It certainly brought back fond memories of the little fashion shows we used to do for our org back in college.

The inspiration for the shoot was Rihanna's music video Disturbia.  The organizers of the photo shoot were ambitiously bent on recreating specific scenes in the music video, which meant dressed up sets and tons of props.  This also meant it would be much more difficult than a plain studio shoot, but I think the discipline in adhering to the theme really paid off in the end.  The unedited shots I saw were quite impressive already.

Here we are trying to recreate the scene in frame 6 of the screen cap grid shown below.

There were four looks: two menswear and two womenswear, which I and Michelle were in charge of styling, respectively.  About two thirds of what they were wearing came from our own closets.

The models were all awesome to work with, and everyone seemed to be having a great time, despite all the work that had to be done.  The looks were borderline schizo, but it was all in the name of fun!  From left to right: Iana was a sexy jockey (notice the whip), Mike a bondage Edward Scissorhands, Lucia channels all of pocahontas/figure skater/GI jane, and Tam was a confused mechanic/pirate.

Lucia has such a sweet face in pictures.  With Mike aka Edward S

Despite being overworked/underfed (I hardly had time to grab lunch, we shot all day!) the experience was lots of fun.  It's highly unlikely that I would pursue this as a career, but it sure makes for one hell of a weekend hobby.
