Project Accomplished: The Holiday Coat

A little more than a month ago, I blogged about having a new jacket made for the holiday season.  My self-imposed brief was for it to be "something I could as much wear with tailored pants and polished shoes at evening events as with vintage torn jeans and a striped t-shirt while Christmas window-shopping".  I went for option three, the shawl-lapel tuxedo jacket, going for extra-wide lapels.  I found the perfect rendition of the wide-lapel shawl-lapel jacket in a photo I found on ModeMan, so I decided to have the tailor pattern the lapels after that:

EDIT: suit by Anthony Price for Topman.  Thanks Gian!

I've had the jacket for a couple of weeks now, but I've only gotten the time to post it now, so here it is:

Owing to a little miscommunication, the satin lapels did not materialize, hence the result isn't something obnoxiously opulent for daytime shopping.  On the plus side, this renders the jacket a little more wearable, which isn't a bad thing at all!  I think the covered buttons, though, give it that little something special.

And now, some more D90 fun.  I had a thought of slightly channeling Junya Watanabe Spring 08.  The air tie, I made it myself.

random straw fedora, tailor-made tuxedo jacket and pants, Zara shirt, DIY air tie, CDG belt, Miu Miu laceups

That's all, folks!  Have a splendid New Year!

Wow, this is such an impressive jacket.
I like fact that these days we are becoming more willing to deliberately wear garments in the 'wrong' situations.
The idea of getting dressed up for an ordinary day out really appeals to me!
In a similar way, I am bending my company's unwritten dress code by wearing white Chuck Taylors with dark skinny denim, pale lilac dress shirt, skinny tie and cardigan! (between Christmas and New Year we operate on a skeleton staff, so dress rules are bit more relaxed)
PS: That 'miscommunication' has happened to me before too! (in my case it was a pocket on the seat of my trouser - I prefer to have none!)

michael: Ao true. When abroad, I would occasionally wear a suit to go shopping. I'd do it here too if it weren't too hot.

The thought of a back pocket-free pair of trousers is interesting, I've never seen it done in menswear before..

there's nothing more sublime than being a contrarian and non-conformist when it comes to dressing. i'm honestly tired of all the 'club kid look' in all the style blogs i've been visiting lately.

Wow, this is a great look. I'm always on the lookout for great everyday suits but have never quite found what I'm after. I will just have to get a few made up.

The blazer's actually by Topman! It's from a line called Priceless designed by Antony Price! ;)

Buy clothing that fits. The ankle is not one of man's aesthetic wonders. As for trying to use a tuxedo jacket for any other purpose, don't.

Also lacking in cuff, but I'm willing to overlook it.
