Petrou\Man Spring 2012

Greetings, dear readers. It's been a while since I last updated this blog---I've lost quite a bit this grueling past couple of weeks: a jacket size and a couple in the pants, and my voice, and all I seem to have left are these fingers that I have not even put to use for the noble act of blogging, and for that, I profusely apologize. Not to worry, the past fashion-filled few weeks have caused me to amass content---articles, photographs, interviews---that would keep us alive, you and I, for a little while.

One of the first shows I saw at New York Fashion Week was Petrou\Man. It's one of the few that I look forward to the most, and though this collection may not have been as exuberant as the past seasons (here and here), Nicolas stuck to his guns and presented a strong, cohesive collection, offering his ever-beloved convoluted mix of prints, and teased my fashion mind with a play on shapes, and layering, and by dabbling in the man-dress, which you will see a few scrolls down.

Petrou's print punch at its best. The Roland Mouret-eqsue extended shoulders on the sleeveless shirt are charmingly awkward.

This color story of khaki, yellow, amber, and fine-print black-and-white is classic and very wearable.

The other half of Petrou\Man Spring 2012 was a denim/white/blue/yellow story that was reminiscent of Spring 2011, freshened up with odd cuts and eyebrow-raising silhouettes.

There was something bird-like about this contorted slick-back the models were sporting.

An interesting approach to layering that I haven't seen from Petrou in the past: a short multi-fabric jacket over a longer shirt, all cut straight and made to feel more organic with the raw hems.

If there's one piece I would like to own out of the collection, it would be this handsomely trimmed jacket. With an extralight white t-shirt, black jeans, and beige suede shoes, it'll all be fresh and easy.

The Petrou\Man man-dress: part medical scrub suit and part housedress. Would I wear it? Perhaps entertaining guests? At a dinner party? For doctors? In the Philippines? Would you?
