Gobel's Grocery Store

For your weekend viewing pleasure, allow me to share a video of the Marlon Gobel Spring 2012 show, an interpretation of today's mad consumer culture, presented in classic menswear shapes: think digital fruit print shirts, a Budweiser knit sweater, and colorful mesh dress shirts reminiscent of eco-bags.

Though I have to admit that the show was styled in a manner that I would not typically dress myself, there were a lot of items that I could envision working very well in my wardrobe, adding a punch to all those dreary darks. There's the Budweiser sweater, which with denim and beat-up Church's monkstraps, would be the perfect outfit for a low-key evening down in Bushwick, the purple and the red berry-print shirts, which would add some tartness to summer blacks, and that sheer honeycomb shirt that would look sweet with pleated black dress pants and not much else.

There's a familiar slickback-haired head sitting front-row, pretending to inspect the collection with journalistic integrity. See if you can find him.

Black Suede and Bugle Beads

I'm currently enamored with these beaded suede loafers by Alberto Guardiani. The contrast between the sleek, shiny bugle beads against the deep matte black suede is pure genius, and the use of these 80s-reminiscnent beads on a men's shoe is just fresh. Oh to wear these with a slim cream suit to a summer soirée!

They also come in a leather lace-up version, which is not too shabby either.

The Italian leather goods house just teamed up with Wallpaper Magazine for quite an interesting project to celebrate its 30 years in the business. Guardiani teams up with Wallpaper fashion director Sebastien Clivaz for a collaboration capsule collection to be made available in Spring of 2012. Firework Fun and Footage of Foolery

To my readers who have been following the blog for the last two years, and to those who have tuned in just now, here's wishing your 2011 be delightful and...

H&M jacket, April 77 jeans

It was my brother, my sister, and I on the street outside our house on New Year's Eve: the air was smoky, the sky awash with fireworks, and the music blaring from my iPod dock was almost as loud as the explosions on the ground and up above. We really didn't feel like dancing, nor did we feel like spending the first couple of hours of the year sewing the footage up into a music video.

From my set of crazy siblings to yours, happy new year.

x,
Izzy

the walking talking look book

The three joys in life, fashion, film, and music, are what British label Percival sought to combine in the "fashion film" they shot to showcase their Autumn/Winter 2010/11 collection. Crisp videography, cool clothes, and good music all make for a sensory treat. A lot of fashion houses have been doing fashion films as alternatives or supplements to their look books, but not all succeed to impress.

Two things I loved:
1. The shock of the yellow mac jacket against the black and white key print sweater (Percival website)
2. Young Buffalo's "Caterpilah" playing in the background (check out their Myspace page)

Male models make for quite the goofy actors.
